Group Therapy

Group counseling offers a special benefit that cannot be replicated in other ways.

Communities have healing power. Connecting and sharing one’s own experiences with others who are facing similar challenges can diminish feelings of isolation and shame.

Our groups meet in-person, upstairs in Heart Stone’s Carriage House at 967 Broadway.
We conduct groups on a rotating basis, based on interest.

Available groups

  • Women's Healing Circle: A therapeutic group for survivors of trauma and traumatic loss

    Changing your relationship to a trauma changes your story, which can change your physiology. Being a witness and being witnessed reduce shame and isolation, and increase hope and compassion— essential healing ingredients.

    Learn & Witness

    The effects of trauma in the body, window of tolerance, recognizing triggers/activation, body memories, use of poetry to heal. narrative approaches to change the relationship to loss and trauma, grounding skills and techniques.

    The group draws from Janina Fisher’s Transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma.

    This group is offered in recurring five-week commitments.

    Cost:
    $210.00 for five groups. Or $45.00/ session

    Who:
    Emily Van Cannon LCPC, LADC has worked with traumatized women and girls for 21 years. She has been a group facilitator in residential settings, jails, and outpatient and community settings. In addition to her clinical training, Emily draws from her experience and education as a Transformative Language Artist and from her five years as an actor with Portland Playback Theatre, to create safe, dynamic spaces for healing and growth.
