“I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.” — Carl Jung
Growing up, my mother let me make mistakes and she never met my requests for guidance or support with judgment or blame. In this way, she taught me the importance of being seen, heard, and connected to others. Attunement, unconditional positive regard, and responsibility were lessons from my childhood that I use every day when I am sitting across from you listening to your story.
As someone who has experienced trauma and challenging life transitions, I know the importance of having safe support. Safety isn’t always where we start from, but it is always the direction we are headed.
I enjoy working with individuals across the lifespan, especially people ages 18-35, who might be wanting to improve their self-esteem, reduce anxiety or find themselves in need of a gentle guide during uncharted times.
Sometimes even happy milestones can be complicated. Maybe you are in high school preparing for college, recently married or engaged, have a new baby at home or are considering opening your relationship up to consensual non-monogamy. With each transition, there may be a shift in identity and an awareness of loss.
I identify as a Sex-Positive therapist, I am currently enrolled in an intensive training program through Sexual Health Alliance and working towards certification for Sex Therapy. I have meaningful conversations with people exploring gender expression, co-parenting, divorce and separation, sex and sexuality. My office is a safe harbor for individuals from all walks of life.
I have been trained in and draw from trauma-informed care, EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory and mindfulness.
When working with me, you know you can always kick off your shoes, curl up on my couch, and share whatever big or little thing is on your mind. My hope is that after our session, you feel validated, a little challenged, and a lot seen.
In my limited free time, I like crafting things. I am currently knitting, whipstitching, and making junk journals. I also love to write fiction and hope one day to publish something. I recently started playing the cello again (I played as a child). I love reading science fiction but also enjoy a good mystery or thriller. I am always doing something active with my husband, our two children and three dogs. We love to ride our bikes, take hikes, or play one of the many variations of UNO together. (Well, the dogs aren’t super into riding bikes or playing UNO, but they are great snugglers.)
