Hi. I’m happy you are here.
When I started Heart Stone Counseling in 2015, I knew I wanted to create a practice that was creative, compassionate, and responsive to the needs and readiness of each individual I served. I also knew I wanted to foster a practice that was particularly attentive to the language people use, how they locate themselves in the context of their problem and all of our societal discourses.
When working with adults and adolescents, I draw largely from Narrative Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and a form of focused mindfulness called Brainspotting. I’ve been known to toss in a poem here and there. The people I see are often experiencing a wide range of problems though I focus on trauma, anxiety, addiction and loss. Often the young people I see are high achievers who are experiencing feelings of being under pressure and sadness.
I moved to Maine from my home state of Michigan in 2001 during the dead of winter with a plan to stay three months. As I was about leave, the melting snow was starting to reveal previously unseen park benches and cobbles stones in the Old Port. I couldn’t get enough of the ginormous sea gulls and the people and the salty air. I still love the smell of the Maine woods, that first sight of the ocean, and thoughtfully prepared food. I’ve picked up listening to audiobooks. I currently live in South Portland with my family and two pugs.
